ABOUT
Thirty years at the place where business decisions and technology meet...
I’ve spent more than thirty years in the space where business decisions and technology meet — mostly on the business side of that line. I’ve been a consultant, a trusted advisor, a lecturer, an author, and for a long time, the head of my own advisory practice and one of Africa's largest ITSM training providers.
What’s stayed constant is the belief that technology is a tool, never the point, and that most failed transformations fail for business reasons, not technical ones. My current work — advising, walking alongside people as they enact change, and teaching — is three different expressions of the same thing.
I’m currently a PhD candidate at Rhodes Business School, researching the conditions that determine the success of digital transformation.
I lecture on IT governance at Nelson Mandela University’s MPhil programme.
I’ve authored or co-authored twenty books, including the official international certification handbooks for Agile/Scrum and VeriSM, some of which have been translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, German, Japanese, and Mandarin.
And I’ve worked across more than thirty-five countries, advising telecoms providers, government departments, listed corporates and multinationals, the United Nations, banks and financial institutions, including the European Central Bank.
I hold postgraduate qualifications in Digital Transformation, Business Administration, Marketing and Digital Marketing, Data Analytics, Big Data and Business Intelligence, and have just added Innovation Project Management and AI for Business to the mix.
I'm a UK Chartered IT Professional (MBCS), an ISACA CGEIT and have received accolades from Thinkers360 as a Top 10 Agile thought leader for 5 years in a row, top 25 IT thought leaders for two years from HDI (USA), and the itSMF ZA Lifetime Achievement Award, for my contribution to the ITSM body of knowledge and profession.
